2024 AUTURA EASON WILLIAMS ESSAY CHALLENGE

In honor of Reverend Autura Eason Williams, a passionate advocate for Memphis youth whose life was tragically cut short, we challenge you to carry on her legacy of positive change. Reverend Williams dedicated her life to empowering young people and building a better Memphis. Now it's your turn. Step up and share your vision for a safer, more vibrant city. How can we create a community where all young people have the opportunity to thrive? How can we address the root causes of violence and develop a culture of peace? Let your voice be heard and honor Reverend Williams' memory by becoming a force for good in Memphis.

Essay Rules:

Deadline for Submission: November 7th, 2024
Eligibility: Grade (7th – 12th)
Length: Essay must be between 500 – 1000 words
Originality: Essays must be original work

Format: Standard font: Times New Roman or Arial, size 12

  1. Line spacing: Double-spaced throughout the document

  2. Margins: 1 inch on all sides

  3. Alignment: Left-aligned text

Judging Criteria: The below 

  1. How well does the essay present and develop ideas for improving Memphis

  2. Does the essay offer unique and innovative solutions

  3. Is the essay logically organized and easy to follow

​Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third-place essays

  1. First Place: $250

  2. Second Place: $150

  3. Third Place: $100

Essays must be submitted online by clicking the submit button below.
We encourage students to work with their teachers and administrators to submit their essays.

We encourage all winners to read their essays at the award ceremony at Capleville Church on November 17th
