About the event
Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool with many positive uses, but it can also be used for harm. This lecture will provide a high-level explanation of how generative AI is used to create and spread disinformation, and how you can learn to identify it.
In this class, you will learn about:
How AI is used to help and harm: The same AI models that can help law enforcement can also be used by criminals to clone voices and create phone scams. AI that quickly analyzes large datasets can also perpetuate human biases. AI Overviews in search engines can summarize large amounts of information, but they are also susceptible to "hallucinating" or giving incorrect information.
Types of disinformation: We will define disinformation as information intentionally created to mislead people. This includes deepfakes—videos created to deceive—and voice cloning, which replicates a person's voice from a recording.
